David Lombardi
Volunteer / Swim
Counselor

During his high school career, one decade after he first entered the world of competitive swimming as a Visalia Wave, Lombardi would begin one of the most impressive runs in Visalia and West Yosemite League (WYL) swimming history. After being edged out in a race against Hanford during his freshman season in 2003, Lombardi would not see defeat again until the second to last meet of his career in 2006. During this magical stretch, he won 58 straight races and compiled perfect (18-0) seasons as a sophomore and junior. After being named the Fresno Bee Athlete of the Month and racking up Visalia Times-Delta Athlete of the Week honors twice in that span, David Lombardi’s phenomenal 58-race duel meet winning streak was finally put to an end in a memorable duel with Kohlton Norys in front of the largest crowd in Visalia swimming history. Lombardi, who would finish that senior year with a 22-1 record and a 56-1 record over his last three years of high school, also broke the oldest Mt. Whitney school record – Peter Tragitt’s 1974 200-yard freestyle mark – at the final duel meet of his high school career and was named the 2006 CIF Central Section Scholar Athlete of the Year.

During his final two years in Visalia, Lombardi elevated his swimming performance to the National level, competing at some of America’s biggest meets – including Junior Nationals and the Stanford Grand Prix. A holder of two Central California Swimming/Valley relay records, Lombardi is currently working into the best shape of his life at Stanford in hopes of etching his name into at least one more record book.
